.lyr data -> Koeppen GIS climate classes

I am a new user struggling to import a dataset downloaded from:
http://koeppen-geiger.vu-wien.ac.at/ (select Data: GIS format). This is Koeppen climate zone data. I have successfully imported the shape file, but can't get the classifications or colors to show up. I notice that the download included the following file types that don't appear compatible with DIVA-GIS? .aux, .lyr (3 of these), .prj, .lyr.xml (same 3 as .lyr files), .mxd.

I suspect that the .lyr format does not make DIVA-GIS happy, but I don't want to spend money on further software if I can avoid it. Please advise, thanks.

World map of Koppen climate classification

Dear DIVA-GIS developpers,

With DIVA-GIS, it is already possible to explore climate data, to derive bioclimatic variables from temperature and precipitation, to use climate data in bioclimatic models etc... Hence, I wonder whether it would be possible to develop a new tool in DIVA-GIS which could be able to generate world map of koppen climate classification (like the "Climate data to map" tool). That would be very very useful.

Usage of Koeppen climate zone data in ASCII format

I started to reorder ASCII data according few other needed format. For this I start with small vb code and goes well. I will add the result and infos in a next day.

I'm just looking to import

I'm just looking to import the data into DIVA-GIS. I'm unsure of how to do that with either the .lyr files in the GIS format, or the ASCII format. Not sure how I could be helpful...

Visualized Koeppen ASCII data
